I’m the first to argue at the slightest sign of generalization, but in regards to the work of filmer/director Kurt Filiponne and producer Chris Ritchie, these Canadian stereotypes hit pretty accurately. After-all, they celebrate the satire of late 70s SCTV sketch “The Great White North” hosted by characters Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas) McKenzie. In particular, Filiponne and Ritchie’s first full-length skateboard film is named after Bob and Doug’s 1983 Strange Brew movie. And while Filipone and Ritchie may not be brothers by blood, they certainly share a vision of what’s important to them: home (Canada), hockey, skateboarding and, lastly, beer.

Strange Brew: A highly charged suffusion of colorful characters. A skateboard film shot in China, Barcelona, Athens, Vancouver and Montreal. Starring: Russ Milligan, Spencer Hamilton, Sascha Daley, Rory Fulber, Gailea Momolu, Paul Machnau, Mike Vince, Ted Degros, Wade Fyfe, Bradley Sheppard, Leks Baris, Nathan Evans, Dylan Thorstenson, Geoff Dermer, Giorgio Zavos and many friends. Co-starring the Antisocial team.
